Hard disk is a primary source of permanent storage, which is designed to store large amount of data. HDD is commonly divided into tracks and each track is further divided into 512 byte segments called as sector. The first sector of logical hard disk is called as boot sector, which contains partition table and MBR. Hard drive storage capacity is determined by the number of sectors. Generally, hard disk storage capacities are measured in TB or GB. As of now, the maximum storage capacity of hard drive is 4TB.

The system cannot access the new HDD until it is not partitioned or formatted. Actually, at least one partition should be created in order to store data on the drive. After creating partitions, each partition need to be formatted that create storage area to store files on the magnetic surface of the platters. Formatting the partition also creates directory i.e. file system to store location of all the files stored on the hard drive. hard disk can be automatically formatted and partitioned by using Windows Operating System setup programs. Hard drive data is generally more susceptible to data loss because of human mistakes. You can very easily retrieve data after partition table corruption on Win 7 caused due to Operating System installation interruption, virus attack and improper system shut down using powerful file recovery tool. This software works very well even to recover unrecognized USB on Windows computer. Use this link to gain more knowledge

Common data loss scenarios are as follows:

Accidental deletion of files: Generally, accidentally deleting files using “Shift+Del” keys results in data loss. Because, the data that has been deleted using “Shift+Del” keys does not move to Recycle Bin. Instead, it bypasses the Recycle Bin resulting in loss of files

Accidentally formatting the hard disk: Accidentally formatting the hard drive that already contains files commonly results in data loss. Because, when you format the hard disk, the data stored on it is completely vanished and then creates new file system resulting in loss of files

Partition reformat: If you have hard drive formatted with NTFS and you want to install 2 different Operating Systems on the same hard drive. If you are installing older version of Windows Operating System then you should reformat the hard drive to convert NTFS to FAT file system. As, older versions of Windows OS does not support NTFS file system. FAT formatted partitions can be easily converted to NTFS file system without losing the files. But, NTFS to FAT conversion might result in loss of files

Even though, you can restore lost or accidentally deleted data using efficient data recovery tool. But, before using any data recovery tool make sure that you have not copied or saved new data over accidentally formatted or reformatted hard drive.
